Teaching / Writing
I teach part-time and write part-time and contribute a regular parenting column in 'Woman and Child'.

I am a member of Early Childhood Australia's Publication committee and have a passion for the topic of Resilience, taking every opportunity to write and speak about it.

pic Gerrie is interviewed by Hugh Clark (producer of Eden Dreaming) on Community TV in Sydney on the topic of Resilience.

I also enjoy writing on travel, humour and personal experience and occasionally teach Life Writing classes.

I am one of the judges for the ACT Carer's Association writing competition for Carer's Week in October 2004.

Publishing
My publishing history includes articles and features in The Australian, the Sydney Morning Herald, The Canberra Times, EQ magazine, Parents Australia, Sydney's Child, Woman and Child, Canberra's Child, Australian Educator and Viewpoint.

Background
I was born and brought up in Zambia, Central Africa and came to Australia when I was 18 years old.
After gaining my teaching qualifications, I taught for some years in disadvantaged schools in Sydney and then completed post graduate qualifications in Special Education and ESL. I later trained as a Reading Recovery teacher.
During this time I married, had a family and spent time teaching and writing in Sydney and in Canberra, where I now live.
